The B Corp Series: Getting Started With B Corp & How To Use Business as a Force For Good
We’ve all heard about B Corps, but what does it actually mean to be certified and how do organisations in the built environment go about achieving it?
In this first session, we’ll hear from James Ghaffari, Director at B Corp UK, as he outlines B Corp certification and how it provides businesses with a framework to balance purpose and profit. Joining him will be Scott James from Ward Williams Associates, a construction and built environment consultancy who are the first Chartered Surveyors in the world to become an accredited B Corporation.
This session is the first of a number of events that Lisa Drake, Director at Elliott Wood, will be running in our co-working space, The Building Society, in conjunction with Gina Mula, (B Leader and Founder of MulaShaker). The events aim to help businesses understand the certification, get the process started or simply to identify ways to have a more purpose driven approach to running your business.
Speakers:
James Ghaffari, B Lab UK
James Ghaffari is Director of Growth & Product at B Lab UK, responsible for growing the B Corp community and managing the certification process for businesses large and small across the UK. James has also held roles in Innovation at an international women and girls’ rights charity and has worked with multinationals and local SMEs in sub-Saharan Africa supporting the growth of inclusive business environments.
Scott James, Ward Williams Associates
Scott James is the Sustainability Lead at Ward Williams Associates, including the comprehensive B Corporation accreditation. Scott Co-Chairs the B Corp UK Built Environment Working Group and supports a number of sector bodies regionally.
When not focused on the sustainability agenda, his broader work focuses on place-shaping, strategy and programme management, including the current area of focus on the Town Deal programme of investment. If there is a big challenge which can create great outcomes for communities and the environment, then it’s the type of project he loves to work on.
