17 June: See The Unseen – Lily’s Walk with Toureen
Thursday 17 June 2021
In this event series, we go behind-the-scenes on some of the most challenging and trailblazing projects our members have worked on. The project teams will reveal the real story behind the design and construction process; what worked well and key lessons learned from the experience.
This month’s Project in Focus is Lily’s Walk, by Toureen Contractors.
Lily’s Walk is a former gasworks sited in a precarious environmental setting; overlying a principle chalk aquifer and within close proximity to a major drinking water abstraction point. Toureen worked with regulators and Thames Water to develop a novel clean telescopic piling technique and thereby inhibiting the risk of gasworks waste migrating into the drinking water resource.
Rick Willemse, Head of Remediation at Toureen, will reveal the challenges and solutions the team addressed in this project, including the contaminated land risk appraisal, techniques employed in the remediation and the legacy liabilities associated with heavily impacted site remediation.
